The movie Freedom Writers is directed by Richard Lagravenese and produced by Danny Devito. A few of the main actors are Hilary Swank (Erin), Patrick Dempsey (Scott), Imelda Staunton (Margaret), Scott Glenn (Steve), April Lee Hernandez (Eva), Mario (Andre), Jason Finn (Marcus), and Hunter Parrish (Ben). The movie was released on January 5th, 2007.
This movie is gripping story of inner city kids raised on drive by shootings and hard core attitude and the teacher who gives them the one thing they need most, a voice of there own. Dropped into the free-fire zone of a school torn by violence and racial tension, teacher Erin Gruwell battles an uncaring system in a fight to make the classroom matter in her students lives. A group of supposedly "unteachable" teens will discover the power of tolerance, reclaim their shattered lives. Erin’s class wrote about their experiences as gang bangers and then their attachment to Gruwell’s class. So early on the movie approaches their lives from their skewed perspective. Her students believe themselves to be brave soldiers in some war, and fill their diaries with empty justification for the racial hatred and brutality they’ve idealized. Eventually Erin gets through to them, breaking through their wall of keeping it real to serve them a little bit of reality.
Richard Lagravenese also directed the movie P.S. I love you in witch Hilary Swank was the lead. She did well in both films but I enjoyed her more in P.S. I love you I though she had more emotion in her acting.
Some of the actors I thought did very well were Mario who played Andre, because the whole situation with his brother made his role more believable also Jason Finn did a good job portraying the part of Marcus. I found the music really went well with the atmosphere. The conflict between Erin and her husband Scott was a huge part in the over all movie because it showed that she cared for this group of kids so much that she was willing to do anything for them, even lose her husband.
The message behind the film the Freedom Writers is that no matter where you come from and what you have in life you're always able to over come it and change your life for the better. and that you should never let someone tell you you can't do something when you know you can. i agree with the message and i believe they got their point across very well.
